Amazon Linux 2 : microcode_ctl (ALAS-2022-1762)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 158724

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of microcode_ctl installed on the remote host is prior to 2.1-47. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the ALAS2-2022-1762 advisory.

- Insufficient control flow management in some Intel(R) Processors may allow an authenticated user to potentially enable a denial of service via local access. (CVE-2021-0127)

- Hardware allows activation of test or debug logic at runtime for some Intel(R) processors which may allow an unauthenticated user to potentially enable escalation of privilege via physical access. (CVE-2021-0146)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update microcode_ctl' to update your system.
