Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux AMI host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of openssh installed on the remote host is prior to 7.4p1-22.77. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS-2022-1565 advisory.

 - sshd in OpenSSH 6.2 through 8.x before 8.8, when certain non-default configurations are used, allows privilege escalation because supplemental groups are not initialized as expected. Helper programs for AuthorizedKeysCommand and AuthorizedPrincipalsCommand may run with privileges associated with group memberships of the sshd process, if the configuration specifies running the command as a different user.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update openssh' to update your system.
