Palo Alto GlobalProtect Agent 5.2.x < 5.2.9 Privilege Escalation

high Nessus Plugin ID 158085

Synopsis

A VPN client installed on remote host is affected by a privilege escalation vulnerability.

Description

The version of Palo Alto GlobalProtect Agent installed on the remote host is 5.2.x prior to 5.2.9. It is, therefore, affected by a privilege escalation vulnerability in the Connect Before Logon feature due to improper handling of exceptional conditions. An unauthenticated, local attacker can exploit this, by authenticating with Connect Before Logon under certain circumstances, to escalate to SYSTEM or root privileges.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Palo Alto GlobalProtect Agent 5.2.9 or later
