Synopsis

A virtualization application installed on the remote macOS or Mac OS X host is affected by a RCE vulnerability

Description

VMware Fusion contains a heap-overflow vulnerability in CD-ROM device emulation. A malicious actor with access to a virtual machine with CD-ROM device emulation may be able to exploit this vulnerability in conjunction with other issues to execute code on the hypervisor from a virtual machine.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update to VMware Fusion version 12.2.0, or later.
