F5 Networks BIG-IP : Expat vulnerability (K05295469)

high Nessus Plugin ID 157382

Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

The version of F5 Networks BIG-IP installed on the remote host is prior to 13.1.5 / 14.1.4.5 / 15.1.4.1 / 16.1.2 / 17.0.0. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the K05295469 advisory.

- In libexpat before 2.2.8, crafted XML input could fool the parser into changing from DTD parsing to document parsing too early; a consecutive call to XML_GetCurrentLineNumber (or XML_GetCurrentColumnNumber) then resulted in a heap-based buffer over-read. (CVE-2019-15903)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to one of the non-vulnerable versions listed in the F5 Solution K05295469.
