F5 Networks BIG-IP : BIG-IP ASM and Advanced WAF TMUI vulnerability (K61112120)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 156842

Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

The version of F5 Networks BIG-IP installed on the remote host is prior to 14.1.4.4 / 15.1.4 / 16.1.1 / 17.0.0. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the K61112120 advisory.

- On BIG-IP FPS, ASM, and Advanced WAF versions 16.1.x before 16.1.1, 15.1.x before 15.1.4, and 14.1.x before 14.1.4.4, an XML External Entity (XXE) vulnerability exists in an undisclosed page of the F5 Advanced Web Application Firewall (Advanced WAF) and BIG-IP ASM Traffic Management User Interface (TMUI), also referred to as the Configuration utility, that allows an authenticated high-privileged attacker to read local files and force BIG-IP to send HTTP requests. Note: Software versions which have reached End of Technical Support (EoTS) are not evaluated. (CVE-2022-23031)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to one of the non-vulnerable versions listed in the F5 Solution K61112120.
