Debian DLA-2858-1 : libzip - LTS security update

medium Nessus Plugin ID 156328

Synopsis

The remote Debian host is missing a security-related update.

Description

The remote Debian 9 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the dla-2858 advisory.

- The _zip_read_eocd64 function in zip_open.c in libzip before 1.3.0 mishandles EOCD records, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory allocation failure in _zip_cdir_grow in zip_dirent.c) via a crafted ZIP archive. (CVE-2017-14107)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the libzip packages.

For Debian 9 stretch, this problem has been fixed in version 1.1.2-1.1+deb9u1.
