Python < 3.6.14 / 3.7.11 / 3.8.11 / 3.9.6 DoS

high Nessus Plugin ID 156198

Synopsis

The remote host has an application installed that is affected by a denial of service vulnerability.

Description

A denial of service vulnerability exists in Python 3.6.x < 3.6.14, 3.7.x < 3.7.11, 3.8.x < 3.8.11, and 3.9.x < 3.9.6. If a client performs an HTTP/HTTPS/FTP request against a service controlled by an attacker, the attacker can make this client hang forever, even if the client has set a timeout argument (CVE-2021-3737).

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade Python to 3.6.14, 3.7.11, 3.8.11, 3.9.6 or later.
