critical Nessus Plugin ID 153857

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 18.04 LTS host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the USN-5102-1 advisory.

- cext/manifest.c in Mercurial before 4.7.2 has an out-of-bounds read during parsing of a malformed manifest entry. (CVE-2018-17983)

- A flaw was found in Mercurial before 4.9. It was possible to use symlinks and subrepositories to defeat Mercurial's path-checking logic and write files outside a repository. (CVE-2019-3902)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected mercurial and / or mercurial-common packages.
