EulerOS 2.0 SP9 : c-ares (EulerOS-SA-2021-1920)

high Nessus Plugin ID 150170

Synopsis

The remote EulerOS host is missing a security update.

Description

According to the version of the c-ares package installed, the EulerOS installation on the remote host is affected by the following vulnerability :

- c-ares is a C library that performs DNS requests and name resolves asynchronously. c-ares is a fork of the library named 'ares', written by Greg Hudson at MIT.Security Fix(es):A Node.js application that allows an attacker to trigger a DNS request for a host of their choice could trigger a Denial of Service in versions < 15.2.1, < 14.15.1, and < 12.19.1 by getting the application to resolve a DNS record with a larger number of responses. This is fixed in 15.2.1, 14.15.1, and 12.19.1.(CVE-2020-8277)

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the EulerOS security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Solution

Update the affected c-ares package.
