Mozilla Thunderbird < 78.10.1

medium Nessus Plugin ID 149256

Synopsis

A mail client installed on the remote macOS or Mac OS X host is affected by a vulnerability.

Description

The version of Thunderbird installed on the remote macOS or Mac OS X host is prior to 78.10.1. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the mfsa2021-19 advisory.

- The Maintenance Service granted SERVICESTART access to BUILTIN|Users which, in a domain network, grants normal remote users access to start or stop the service. This could be used to prevent the browser update service from operating (if an attacker spammed the 'Stop' command); but also exposed attack surface in the maintenance service.Note: This issue only affected Windows operating systems older than Win 10 build 1709. Other operating systems are unaffected. (CVE-2021-29951)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Mozilla Thunderbird version 78.10.1 or later.
