Security Update for .NET Core (March 2021)

high Nessus Plugin ID 147946

Synopsis

The remote Windows host is affected by a .NET Core remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability.

Description

The Microsoft .NET Core installation on the remote host is version 2.1.x prior to 2.1.26, 3.1.x prior to 3.1.13, or 5.x prior to 5.0.4. It is, therefore, affected by a remote code execution vulnerability. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this to bypass authentication and execute arbitrary commands.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update .NET Core, remove vulnerable packages and refer to vendor advisory.
