Debian DLA-2570-1 : screen security update

critical Nessus Plugin ID 146699

Synopsis

The remote Debian host is missing a security update.

Description

encoding.c in GNU Screen through 4.8.0 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (invalid write access and application crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted UTF-8 character sequence.

For Debian 9 stretch, this problem has been fixed in version 4.5.0-6+deb9u1.

We recommend that you upgrade your screen packages.

For the detailed security status of screen please refer to its security tracker page at:
https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/screen

NOTE: Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the DLA security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Solution

Upgrade the affected screen, and screen-udeb packages.
