Oracle Linux 7 : qemu-kvm (ELSA-2021-0347)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 146077

Synopsis

The remote Oracle Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote Oracle Linux 7 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the ELSA-2021-0347 advisory.

- rom_copy() in hw/core/loader.c in QEMU 4.0 and 4.1.0 does not validate the relationship between two addresses, which allows attackers to trigger an invalid memory copy operation. (CVE-2020-13765)

- In QEMU through 5.0.0, an assertion failure can occur in the network packet processing. This issue affects the e1000e and vmxnet3 network devices. A malicious guest user/process could use this flaw to abort the QEMU process on the host, resulting in a denial of service condition in net_tx_pkt_add_raw_fragment in hw/net/net_tx_pkt.c. (CVE-2020-16092)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
