IBM HTTP Server 7.0.0.0 < 7.0.0.45 / 8.0.0.0 < 8.0.0.15 / 8.5.0.0 < 8.5.5.13 / 9.0.0.0 < 9.0.0.6 Sweet32:Birthday Attack (553351)

high Nessus Plugin ID 144079

Synopsis

The remote web server is affected by a vulnerability.

Description

The version of IBM HTTP Server running on the remote host is affected by a vulnerability. The DES and Triple DES ciphers, as used in the TLS, SSH, and IPSec protocols and other protocols and products, have a birthday bound of approximately four billion blocks, which makes it easier for remote attackers to obtain cleartext data via a birthday attack against a long-duration encrypted session, as demonstrated by an HTTPS session using Triple DES in CBC mode, aka a 'Sweet32' attack.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to IBM HTTP Server version 7.0.0.45, 8.0.0.15, 8.5.5.13, 9.0.0.6, or later.
