IBM WebSphere Application Server 7.0.0.x < 7.0.0.41 / 8.0.0.x < 8.0.0.13 / 8.5.x < 8.5.5.10 MiTM (CVE-2016-0306)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 142060

Synopsis

The remote web application server is affected by a man in the middle vulnerability

Description

The IBM WebSphere Application Server running on the remote host is version 7.0.0.x prior to 7.0.0.41, 8.0.0.x prior to 8.0.0.13, 8.5.0.x prior to 8.5.5.10. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability due to weaker than expected security caused by the improper TLS configuration if FIPS 140-2 is enabled. A remote, unauthenticated attacker can exploit this to obtain sensitive information by using man in the middle techniques.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to IBM WebSphere Application Server 7.0.0.41, 8.0.0.13, 8.5.5.10, or later. Alternatively, upgrade to the minimal fix pack levels required by the interim fix and then apply Interim Fix PI56190.
