Ubuntu 16.04 LTS : Exim SpamAssassin vulnerability (USN-4520-1)

high Nessus Plugin ID 140659

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 16.04 LTS host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-4520-1 advisory.

- sa-exim 4.2.1 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code if they can write a .cf file or a rule. This occurs because Greylisting.pm relies on eval (rather than direct parsing and/or use of the taint feature).
This issue is similar to CVE-2018-11805. (CVE-2019-19920)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected sa-exim package.
