Atlassian Jira < 7.13.12, 8.x < 8.5.4, 8.6.x < 8.6.1 Broken Access Control (JRASERVER-70543)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 139797

Synopsis

The remote web server hosts a web application that is affected by a broken access control vulnerability.

Description

According to its self-reported version number, the instance of Atlassian Jira hosted on the remote web server is prior to 7.13.12, 8.x prior to 8.5.4 or 8.6.x prior to 8.6.1. It is, therefore, affected by a broken access control vulnerability in the issue comments component. An authenticated, remote attacker can exploit this issue to bypass commenting permission and make comments on arbitrary tickets.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Atlassian Jira version 7.13.12, 8.5.4, 8.6.1, 8.7.0 or later.
