New! Vulnerability Priority Rating (VPR)
Tenable calculates a dynamic VPR for every vulnerability. VPR combines vulnerability information with threat intelligence and machine learning algorithms to predict which vulnerabilities are most likely to be exploited in attacks. Read more about what VPR is and how it's different from CVSS.
VPR Score: 3.6
Synopsis
An application installed on the remote macOS / Mac OS X host is affected by a vulnerability.
Description
The version of Wireshark installed on the remote macOS / Mac OS X host is prior to 3.2.6. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the wireshark-3.2.6 advisory.
- The Kafka dissector could crash. It may be possible to make Wireshark crash by injecting a malformed packet onto the wire or by convincing someone to read a malformed packet trace file. (CVE-2020-17498)
Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.
Solution
Upgrade to Wireshark version 3.2.6 or later.
