Microsoft Edge (Chromium) < 81.0.416.58 Sandbox Escape

critical Nessus Plugin ID 138337

Synopsis

The remote host has an web browser installed that is affected by a use-after-free error.

Description

The version of Microsoft Edge (Chromium) installed on the remote Windows host is prior to 81.0.416.58. It is, therefore, affected by a use-after-free error in the speech recognizer component. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this, via a crafted HTML page, to potentially perform a sandbox escape.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Microsoft Edge (Chromium) 81.0.416.58 or later.
