Synopsis

The remote Windows host contains a media player that is affected by heap base buffer overflow vulnerability.

Description

TThe version of VLC media player installed on the remote host is prior to 3.0.3. It is, therefore, affected by a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in its 'EbmlElement::FindNextElement' component. An unauthenticated, local attacker can exploit this to cause a denial of service condition or the execution of arbitrary code. (CVE-2019-13615).

Solution

Upgrade to VLC version 3.0.3 or later.
