Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS 8.1.x < 8.1.13 Privilege Escalation (PAN-97584)

high Nessus Plugin ID 134709

Synopsis

The remote PAN-OS host is affected by vulnerability

Description

The version of Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS running on the remote host is 8.1.x prior to 8.1.13. It is, therefore, affected by a format string vulnerability in the PAN-OS log daemon (logd) on Panorama due to improper handling of user-supplied input. An authenticated, local attacker can exploit this, by supplying crafted input, in order to execute arbitrary code, bypass the restricted shell, and escalate privileges.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to PAN-OS 8.1.13 or later
