Arista Networks EOS DoS (SA0039)

high Nessus Plugin ID 134116

Synopsis

The version of Arista Networks EOS running on the remote device is affected by a denial of service (DoS) vulnerability.

Description

The version of Arista Networks EOS running on the remote device is affected by a denial of service (DoS) vulnerability in the client certificate authentication process, due to the crypto/x509 package in Go not limiting the amount of work performed for each chain verification. A remote, unauthenticated attacker can exploit this, by sending a crafted certificate to cause the system to stop responding.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Arista Networks EOS version 4.21.4F or later.
