Junos OS: MC-LAG DoS (JSA10966)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 130515

Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

According to its self-reported version number, the remote Juniper Junos device is affected by a denial of service (DoS) vulnerability on devices configured with Multi-Chassis Link Aggregation Group (MC-LAG). An unauthenticated, adjacent attacker can exploit this by continuously sending a specially crafted IPv6 packet to repeatedly crash the system and cause the device to stop responding.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Apply the relevant Junos software release referenced in Juniper advisory JSA10966.
