Junos OS: srxpfe PIM DoS (JSA10976)

high Nessus Plugin ID 130467

Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

According to its self-reported version number, the remote Juniper Junos device is affected by a denial of service (DoS) vulnerability in the srxpfe process on Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) enabled SRX series devices. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this issue, by repeatedly sending crafted PIM messages, to crash the srxfpe process and cause an FPC reboot, leading to an extended denial of service condition and causing the system to stop responding.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Apply the relevant Junos software release referenced in Juniper advisory JSA10976
