Junos OS: flowd DoS (JSA10963)

high Nessus Plugin ID 130466

Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

According to its self-reported version number, the remote Juniper Junos device is affected by a denial of service (DoS) vulnerability in the flowd process on SRX 5000 devices when 'set security zones security-zone <zone> tcp-rst' is configured. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can send a crafted TCP packet to crash the flowd process and trigger a new session. Repeated crashes of the flowd daemon can result in an extended DoS condition.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Apply the relevant Junos software release referenced in Juniper advisory JSA10963.
