Ubuntu 14.04 LTS / 16.04 LTS / 18.04 LTS : Ghostscript regression (USN-3866-2)

high Nessus Plugin ID 122398

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

USN-3866-1 fixed vulnerabilities in Ghostscript. The new Ghostscript version introduced a regression when printing certain page sizes. This update fixes the problem.

Tavis Ormandy discovered that Ghostscript incorrectly handled certain PostScript files. If a user or automated system were tricked into processing a specially crafted file, a remote attacker could possibly use this issue to access arbitrary files, execute arbitrary code, or cause a denial of service.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
