Oracle Linux 6 / 7 : Unbreakable Enterprise kernel (ELSA-2019-4532)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 122044
New! Plugin Severity Now Using CVSS v3

The calculated severity for Plugins has been updated to use CVSS v3 by default. Plugins that do not have a CVSS v3 score will fall back to CVSS v2 for calculating severity. Severity display preferences can be toggled in the settings dropdown.

Synopsis

The remote Oracle Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote Oracle Linux 6 / 7 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the ELSA-2019-4532 advisory.

- The ext4_fill_super function in fs/ext4/super.c in the Linux kernel through 4.15.15 does not always initialize the crc32c checksum driver, which allows attackers to cause a denial of service (ext4_xattr_inode_hash NULL pointer dereference and system crash) via a crafted ext4 image.
(CVE-2018-1094)

- An issue was discovered in the proc_pid_stack function in fs/proc/base.c in the Linux kernel through 4.18.11. It does not ensure that only root may inspect the kernel stack of an arbitrary task, allowing a local attacker to exploit racy stack unwinding and leak kernel task stack contents. (CVE-2018-17972)

- An issue was discovered in the Linux kernel through 4.17.10. There is an invalid pointer dereference in
__del_reloc_root() in fs/btrfs/relocation.c when mounting a crafted btrfs image, related to removing reloc rb_trees when reloc control has not been initialized. (CVE-2018-14609)

- The ocfs2_setattr function in fs/ocfs2/file.c in the Linux kernel before 4.14.2 allows local users to cause a denial of service (deadlock) via DIO requests. (CVE-2017-18204)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
