Ubuntu 14.04 LTS / 16.04 LTS / 17.10 : exempi vulnerabilities (USN-3668-1)

Medium Nessus Plugin ID 110321

The remote Ubuntu host is missing one or more security-related patches.

It was discovered that Exempi incorrectly handled certain media files.
If a user or automated system were tricked into opening a specially crafted file, a remote attacker could cause Exempi to hang or crash, resulting in a denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary code.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Update the affected exempi and / or libexempi3 packages.
