Debian DLA-1350-1 : qemu-kvm security update

high Nessus Plugin ID 109089

Synopsis

The remote Debian host is missing a security update.

Description

The load_multiboot function in hw/i386/multiboot.c in Quick Emulator (aka QEMU) allows local guest OS users to execute arbitrary code on the QEMU host via a mh_load_end_addr value greater than mh_bss_end_addr, which triggers an out-of-bounds read or write memory access.

For Debian 7 'Wheezy', these problems have been fixed in version 1.1.2+dfsg-6+deb7u25.

We recommend that you upgrade your qemu-kvm packages.

NOTE: Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the DLA security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Solution

Upgrade the affected kvm, qemu-kvm, and qemu-kvm-dbg packages.
