New! Vulnerability Priority Rating (VPR)
Tenable calculates a dynamic VPR for every vulnerability. VPR combines vulnerability information with threat intelligence and machine learning algorithms to predict which vulnerabilities are most likely to be exploited in attacks. Read more about what VPR is and how it's different from CVSS.
VPR Score: 5.9
SynopsisThe remote Gentoo host is missing one or more security-related patches.
DescriptionThe remote host is affected by the vulnerability described in GLSA-201711-04 (MariaDB, MySQL: Root privilege escalation)
The Gentoo installation scripts before 2017-09-29 have chown calls for user-writable directory trees, which allows local users to gain privileges by leveraging access to the mysql account for creation of a link.
A local attacker could escalate privileges to root.
There is no known workaround at this time.
SolutionAll MariaDB users should upgrade to the latest version:
# emerge --sync # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose '>=dev-db/mariadb-10.0.30-r1' All MySQL users should upgrade to the latest version:
# emerge --sync # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose '>=dev-db/mysql-5.6.36-r1'
