New! Vulnerability Priority Rating (VPR)
Tenable calculates a dynamic VPR for every vulnerability. VPR combines vulnerability information with threat intelligence and machine learning algorithms to predict which vulnerabilities are most likely to be exploited in attacks. Read more about what VPR is and how it's different from CVSS.
VPR Score: 5.9
SynopsisThe remote EulerOS host is missing multiple security updates.
DescriptionAccording to the versions of the binutils packages installed, the EulerOS installation on the remote host is affected by the following vulnerabilities :
- The process_version_sections function in readelf.c in GNU Binutils 2.29 allows attackers to cause a denial of service (Integer Overflow, and hang because of a time-consuming loop) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted binary file with invalid values of ent.vn_next, during 'readelf -a' execution.(CVE-2017-14333)
- dwarf1.c in the Binary File Descriptor (BFD) library (aka libbfd), as distributed in GNU Binutils 2.29, mishandles pointers, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted ELF file, related to parse_die and parse_line_table, as demonstrated by a parse_die heap-based buffer over-read.(CVE-2017-15020)
Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the EulerOS security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.
SolutionUpdate the affected binutils packages.
