Ubuntu 12.04 LTS : rtmpdump vulnerabilities (USN-3283-2)
High Nessus Plugin ID 100379
SynopsisThe remote Ubuntu host is missing a security-related patch.
DescriptionDave McDaniel discovered that rtmpdump incorrectly handled certain malformed streams. If a user were tricked into processing a specially crafted stream, a remote attacker could cause rtmpdump to crash, resulting in a denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary code.
Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.
SolutionUpdate the affected librtmp0 package. Note that the updated packages may not be immediately available from the package repository and its mirrors.
