In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipvs: revalidate ihl to prevent out-of-bounds access While the outer IP header is already pulled into the skb head, we must be careful and revalidate the embedded headers after reading them from the skb frags to prevent out-of-bounds access. One such place reported by Sashiko is ip_vs_nat_icmp() where local process can change the ihl field and after skb_ensure_writable() we can see larger value which is a problem for the ip_send_check(cih) calls. Add check to drop the packet if the ihl field is changed.

The remote Ubuntu 24.04 LTS host has a package installed that is affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the USN-8886-1 advisory.

Several security issues were discovered in the Linux kernel. An attacker could possibly use these to compromise the system. This update corrects flaws in the following subsystems:

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

The Linux/Unix host has one or more packages installed that are impacted by a vulnerability without a vendor supplied patch available.

  - ipvs: revalidate ihl to prevent out-of-bounds access While the outer IP header is already pulled into the skb head, we must be careful and revalidate the embedded headers after reading them from the skb frags to prevent out-of-bounds access. One such place reported by Sashiko is ip_vs_nat_icmp() where local process can change the ihl field and after skb_ensure_writable() we can see larger value which is a problem for the ip_send_check(cih) calls. Add check to drop the packet if the ihl field is changed. (CVE-2026-74747)

Note that Nessus relies on the presence of the package as reported by the vendor.
