HtmlUnit prior to 2.37.0 contains code execution vulnerabilities. HtmlUnit initializes Rhino engine improperly, hence a malicious JavScript code can execute arbitrary Java code on the application. Moreover, when embedded in Android application, Android-specific initialization of Rhino engine is done in an improper way, hence a malicious JavaScript code can execute arbitrary Java code on the application.

The Linux/Unix host has one or more packages installed that are impacted by a vulnerability without a vendor supplied patch available.

The remote Ubuntu 16.04 LTS host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-4584-1 advisory.

    It was discovered that HtmlUnit incorrectly initialized Rhino engine. An Attacker could possibly use this     issue to execute arbitrary Java code.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

In HtmlUnit, a GUI-Less browser for Java programs, malicious JavaScript code was able to execute arbitrary Java code on the application.

For Debian 9 stretch, this problem has been fixed in version 2.8-2+deb9u1.

We recommend that you upgrade your htmlunit packages.
