medium Nessus Network Monitor Plugin ID 5298
New! Plugin Severity Now Using CVSS v3

The calculated severity for Plugins has been updated to use CVSS v3 by default. Plugins that do not have a CVSS v3 score will fall back to CVSS v2 for calculating severity. Severity display preferences can be toggled in the settings dropdown.

Synopsis

The remote host is vulnerable to multiple attack vectors.

Description

The remote host is running Pidgin < 2.6.5. Such versions are potentially affected by an information disclosure vulnerability because the MSN protocol plugin axtracts the filename of a custom emoticon from an incoming request and uploads that file without correlating the filename to a valid custom emoticon.

Solution

Upgrade to Pidgin 2.6.5 or later.
