medium Log Correlation Engine Plugin ID 800603
New! Plugin Severity Now Using CVSS v3

The calculated severity for Plugins has been updated to use CVSS v3 by default. Plugins that do not have a CVSS v3 score will fall back to CVSS v2 for calculating severity. Severity display preferences can be toggled in the settings dropdown.

Synopsis

The remote host is vulnerable to a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack

Description

The remote web server includes an example JSP application, 'cal2.jsp' that fails to sanitize user-supplied input before using it to generate dynamic content. An unauthenticated remote attacker may be able to leverage this issue to inject arbitrary HTML or script code into a user's browser to be executed within the security context of the affected site.

Solution

Either undeploy the Tomcat examples web application, apply the appropriate patch referenced in the vendor advisory, or upgrade to Tomcat 6.0.19 / 5.5.28 / 4.1.40 when available.
