Ubuntu 12.04 LTS / 14.04 LTS / 14.10 : git vulnerability (USN-2470-1)

Ubuntu Security Notice (C) 2015-2016 Canonical, Inc. / NASL script (C) 2015-2016 Tenable Network Security, Inc.

Synopsis :

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security-related patch.

Description :

Matt Mackall and Augie Fackler discovered that Git incorrectly handled
certain filesystem paths. A remote attacker could possibly use this
issue to execute arbitrary code if the Git tree is stored in an HFS+
or NTFS filesystem. The remote attacker would need write access to a
Git repository that the victim pulls from.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding
description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable
has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible
without introducing additional issues.

Solution :

Update the affected git package.
