Ubuntu 9.10 : gnome-screensaver vulnerability (USN-866-1)

Ubuntu Security Notice (C) 2009-2016 Canonical, Inc. / NASL script (C) 2009-2016 Tenable Network Security, Inc.

Synopsis :

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security-related patch.

Description :

It was discovered that gnome-screensaver did not always re-enable
itself after applications requested it to ignore idle timers. This may
result in the screen not being automatically locked after the
inactivity timeout is reached, permitting an attacker with physical
access to gain access to an unlocked session.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding
description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable
has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible
without introducing additional issues.

Solution :

Update the affected gnome-screensaver package.

Risk factor :

High / CVSS Base Score : 7.2
