WG240 IIS6 - Logs of web server access and errors must be established and maintained.

Information

A major tool in exploring the web site use, attempted use, unusual conditions, and problems are reported in the access and error logs. In the event of a security incident, these logs can provide the SA and the Web Manager with valuable information.

 NOTE: Nessus has not performed this check. Please review the benchmark to ensure target compliance.

Solution

1. Open the Internet Information Services Manager.
2. Right click on the web site being reviewed > Select properties > Select the Web Site tab.
3. Check the Enable logging check box.
4. Select the Home Directory Tab.
5. Check the Log visits check box.
6. Select OK.
