18.10.29.3 Ensure 'Turn off files from Office.com in Quick access view' is set to 'Enabled'

Information

This policy setting controls whether or not File Explorer will request files from the cloud and display them in Quick access view.

The recommended state for this setting is: Enabled.

Rationale:

In a high security environment, data should never be sent or received from any third-party since this data could contain sensitive information.

Impact:

File Explorer will not be able to request recent cloud file metadata from Office.com and display it in the Quick access view.

Solution

To establish the recommended configuration via GP, set the following UI path to Enabled:

Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\File Explorer\Turn off files from Office.com in Quick access view

Note: This Group Policy path may not exist by default. It is provided by the Group Policy template Explorer.admx/adml that is included with the Microsoft Windows 11 Release 22H2 Administrative Templates (or newer).

Default Value:

Disabled. (File Explorer can request recent cloud file metadata from Office.com and display it in the Quick access view.)
