1.100 Ensure 'Enable Copilot address bar suggestions' is set to 'Disabled'

Information

This policy setting controls whether Copilot chat suggestions appear in the address bar of Microsoft Edge.

The recommended state for this setting is: Disabled.

Copilot address bar suggestions process user input through a cloud-based AI service to generate contextual suggestions. The address bar is where users enter URLs, search queries, and potentially sensitive information such as internal hostnames or application paths. Allowing this input to be processed by an external AI service increases the risk of unintended data exposure.

Solution

To establish the recommended configuration via GP, set the following UI path to Disabled :

Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Microsoft Edge\Enable Copilot address bar suggestions

Note: This Group Policy path may not exist by default. It is provided by the Group Policy template MSEdge.admx/adml that can be downloaded from: Download Microsoft Edge for Business - Microsoft.

Impact:

Users will not see Copilot chat suggestions in the address bar. Standard address bar functionality, including URL completion, search suggestions, and browsing history suggestions, remains unaffected.
