1.98 Ensure 'Enable clipboard suggestions in the address bar' is set to 'Disabled'

Information

This policy setting controls whether suggestions based on clipboard content are shown in the address bar suggestion dropdown.

The recommended state for this setting is: Disabled.

The system clipboard frequently contains sensitive data such as passwords, authentication tokens, internal URLs, or personally identifiable information copied from other applications. Allowing Microsoft Edge to read and display clipboard content in the address bar suggestion dropdown increases the risk of inadvertent data exposure, particularly in shared or observed environments where the address bar dropdown is visible on screen.

Solution

To establish the recommended configuration via GP, set the following UI path to Disabled :

Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Microsoft Edge\Enable clipboard suggestions in the address bar

Note: This Group Policy path may not exist by default. It is provided by the Group Policy template MSEdge.admx/adml that can be downloaded from: Download Microsoft Edge for Business - Microsoft.

Impact:

Users will no longer see suggestions based on clipboard content in the address bar dropdown. Users can still manually paste clipboard content into the address bar.
