Information

Creates a Network Map, consisting of PC and device topology (connectivity) information, and metadata describing each PC and device.

The recommended state for this setting is: 'Disabled'.

Rationale:
The feature that this service enables could potentially be used for unauthorized discovery and connection to network devices.

Disabling the service helps to prevent responses to requests for network topology discovery in high security environments.

Solution

To establish the recommended configuration via GP, set the following UI path to: 'Disabled'.

Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\System Services\Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper

Impact:
The Network Map will not function properly.
