9.4 Configure 'Disable changing proxy settings'

Information

*Description*

This policy setting removes users' ability to change proxy settings. If you enable this policy
setting, the proxy settings are dimmed. (The proxy settings are located in the Proxy Server
area of the LAN Settings dialog box that appears when the user clicks the Connections tab
and then the LAN Settings button in the Internet Options dialog box.) This policy setting
also removes users' ability to change settings that are configured through Group Policy.
You may want to disable this policy setting for laptop users if their travel requires them to
change their connection settings. Note- If you configure the Disable the Connections page
setting, you do not need to configure this policy setting. The Disable the Connections page
setting removes the Connections tab from the interface. This setting is located in \User
Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet
Explorer\Internet Control Panel in the Group Policy Object Editor. Configure this setting in
a manner that is consistent with the security and operational requirements of your
organization.

*Rationale*

Users could alter existing proxy server settings and make it impossible for them to use
Internet Explorer to browse some, or all, Web sites.

Solution

Configure the following Group Policy setting in a manner that is consistent with the
security and operational requirements of your organization-

Impact-Users will be unable to change the proxy settings.
