2.5.2 Disable sleeping the computer when connected to power

Information

In some institutions certain software must be run that requires the computer to be awake. In these situations the computer should not be set to sleep. Not allowing the computer to sleep will use more power and increase the cost to operate the computer. This must be weighed against the needs of the organization. The ability to apply security patches and perform vulnerability assessments on the system is reduced when the system is sleeping.

Solution

In System Preferences: Energy Saver, drag the slider for "Put the computer to sleep..." to never. Alternatively, use the following command: sudo pmset -c sleep 0 Impact: Preventing systems from sleeping may increase energy consumption
