Ubuntu 10.04 LTS / 12.04 LTS / 13.10 / 14.04 LTS : libxml2 regression (USN-2214-3)

Ubuntu Security Notice (C) 2014-2016 Canonical, Inc. / NASL script (C) 2014-2016 Tenable Network Security, Inc.

Synopsis :

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security-related patch.

Description :

USN-2214-1 fixed vulnerabilities in libxml2. The upstream fix
introduced a number of regressions. This update fixes the problem.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Daniel Berrange discovered that libxml2 would incorrectly perform
entity substitution even when requested not to. If a user or automated
system were tricked into opening a specially crafted document, an
attacker could possibly cause resource consumption, resulting in a
denial of service.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding
description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable
has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible
without introducing additional issues.

Solution :

Update the affected libxml2 package.
