Ubuntu 12.10 : curl vulnerability (USN-1721-1)

Ubuntu Security Notice (C) 2013-2016 Canonical, Inc. / NASL script (C) 2013-2016 Tenable Network Security, Inc.

Synopsis :

The remote Ubuntu host is missing one or more security-related
patches.

Description :

It was discovered that curl incorrectly handled SASL authentication
when communicating over POP3, SMTP or IMAP. If a user or automated
system were tricked into processing a specially crafted URL, an
attacker could cause a denial of service, or possibly execute
arbitrary code. The default compiler options for affected releases
should reduce the vulnerability to a denial of service.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding
description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable
has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible
without introducing additional issues.

Solution :

Update the affected libcurl3, libcurl3-gnutls and / or libcurl3-nss
packages.

Risk factor :

High / CVSS Base Score : 7.5
(CVSS2#AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P)
CVSS Temporal Score : 6.5
(CVSS2#E:ND/RL:OF/RC:C)
