Ubuntu 5.04 : graphviz vulnerability (USN-208-1)

low Nessus Plugin ID 20625

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing one or more security-related patches.

Description

Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pena discovered that the 'dotty' tool created and used temporary files in an insecure way. A local attacker could exploit this with a symlink attack to create or overwrite arbitrary files with the privileges of the user running dotty.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Solution

Update the affected graphviz, graphviz-dev and / or graphviz-doc packages.
