Tenable’s Jack Daniel to speak at the Boston Network Users Group

January 8, 2013
Information Security often appears to be a lost cause, we have an ever-growing pool of attackers, and ever-expanding set of attacks, and a dire lack of resources to address these and other challenges. Data and analysis in reports from Verizon, Trustwave, Mandiant, Symantec, and others paint an interesting picture of the state of information security, and it isn't pretty- but there is much to learn from the best of industry analysis. Complementing the industry reports, I have done some simple vulnerability research and found cause for both despair, and hope. This presentation will explore the current state of information security through a review of several industry surveys and reports, then through some original analysis of Internet systems and their weaknesses, and end with a discussion of limitations and opportunities for improving the state of security, both in our immediate challenges and in the larger environment.
